A Thousand Grains of Rice
Every face is made of thousands of moments. We simply forget to count them.
A single grain of rice is almost nothing. White, small, ordinary. We eat it by the thousands and never think of one.
But place a thousand grains side by side, and something changes. Each grain is slightly different, a different shade, a different shape, a different weight. Together, they become a surface, a shadow, a face.
This is how HONG XI builds a portrait. Not with paint, but with patience. One grain at a time, until the ordinary becomes unrecognisable, and then, from a distance, becomes a person.
Every face is made of thousands of moments. We simply forget to count them.
